Definition

What is voiceover & audio?

Voiceover is recorded narration or dialogue added to video, audio or interactive media. Audio production covers the recording, editing, cleaning, mixing and mastering of voice, music and sound effects into a finished soundtrack.

Viewers often judge quality by sound before picture. A clear, well-cast voice makes an explainer credible; clean, balanced audio makes a webinar easy to follow; a distinctive sound gives a brand recognition. Bad audio (echo, hum, uneven levels, a voice that doesn't fit) undermines everything else. We cast, record, clean and mix so your content sounds as good as it looks.

Casting the right voice

The voice is part of your brand. Age, accent, warmth, energy and pace all change how a message lands. A financial service may want a calm, trustworthy voice; a fitness app an energetic one; a children's product a playful one. We send a shortlist of voice samples based on your brief, and can arrange short custom auditions on your script.

For multilingual projects, we cast native speakers with similar tone in each language, so the brand feels consistent across markets.

Voice usage rights

Professional voiceover is licensed for specific uses.

UseTypical licence considerations
Online video and socialPlatforms and duration of use
Paid advertisingMedia type, territory and campaign duration
Radio and TVBroadcast markets and duration
E-learning and internalUsually broad internal use
Phone systemsOngoing use on your lines

AI voices and voice cloning

AI voices have improved dramatically and suit uses such as drafts, frequent updates, large e-learning libraries or many language versions. They still struggle with emotional range, unusual names and some languages, including smaller ones like Albanian, so we review output carefully and recommend human voices where quality matters most.

We only clone a real person's voice with their documented consent for the agreed uses, using reputable tools with commercial licences. We never clone public figures or anyone who hasn't agreed.

Audio services beyond voice

  • Audio repair

Noise, hum, echo and clipping reduced in existing recordings.

  • Mixing and mastering

Voice, music and effects balanced to platform loudness standards.

  • Sound design

Effects and atmospheres for video, apps and games.

  • Sonic branding

Jingles, sonic logos and on-hold music that sound like your brand.

How to prepare a script for voiceover

  • Final, approved text before recording
  • Pronunciation notes for names and terms
  • The tone and pace you want
  • Timing limits for each section, if syncing to video
  • Reference video or draft edit when available
  • How files should be split and named

Voiceover for e-learning

Course narration needs consistency more than drama: the same voice, tone and audio quality across dozens or hundreds of modules, often updated over time. We plan file naming, pronunciation guides and recording settings so later additions match the originals.

For courses that change often, a consent-based AI version of the narrator's voice can handle small updates between recording sessions, with the narrator's agreement and review.

Common mistakes to avoid

What we see go wrong most often, and how a good project avoids it.

  • Changing the script after recording

Re-recording costs time and money. Approve the script first.

  • No pronunciation guide

Mispronounced names and products are a common, avoidable error.

  • Ignoring usage rights

Using a voice beyond its licence can cause disputes.

  • Music drowning the voice

Mix music under the voice so every word is clear.
