Definition
What is cloud deployment?
Cloud deployment is the set-up and operation of an application on cloud infrastructure (servers or serverless platforms, databases, storage, networking and the pipelines that deliver new versions) rather than on hardware you run yourself.
Cloud platforms make it easy to start and easy to overspend. A good set-up is boring: the simplest services that meet your needs, environments for testing, automated deployments, backups you've tested, alerts that reach someone, and a bill you understand. We design for that, document it, and make sure you hold the keys.
Who is it for?
Teams launching a product
You've built an app and need it hosted reliably, with staging, deployments and monitoring from day one.
Companies with rising cloud bills
Costs have grown without anyone knowing exactly why. We find idle and oversized resources and simplify.
Businesses on ageing hosting
Shared hosting or an old server that's slow, unpatched and depends on one person's knowledge.
Teams with data-residency needs
Data must stay in the EU or a specific region, with access controlled and documented.
What's included, and what you keep
What's included
- Architecture review and platform recommendation
- Account set-up with least-privilege access
- Environments: development, staging, production
- Application deployment and configuration
- Managed databases and object storage
- Networking, domains, SSL and CDN
- CI/CD pipelines with preview deployments
- Secrets management
- Monitoring, logging and alerting
- Backups and tested restores
- Cost review and right-sizing
- Documentation and handover
What you receive
Handed over at the end. Yours to keep.
- Running infrastructure in your cloud accounts
- Infrastructure-as-code or documented configuration
- Deployment pipeline
- Monitoring dashboards and alert routing
- Architecture diagram and runbook
- Cost report with recommendations
Which cloud platform should you use?
| Platform | Good fit for |
|---|---|
| Vercel | Next.js and React front ends with zero-config deploys and previews |
| AWS | Complex back ends, data workloads and the widest range of services |
| Microsoft Azure | Companies on Microsoft 365, .NET or Entra ID |
| Google Cloud | Containers on Cloud Run, data analytics and AI workloads |
| Cloudflare | CDN, edge functions, static sites and security in front of any origin |
| DigitalOcean | Simple, predictable pricing for smaller apps |
How do we keep cloud costs under control?
Most cloud waste comes from three places: resources left running after a test, servers sized for a peak that never comes, and data transfer nobody planned for. We tag every resource by project and environment so costs can be traced, turn off what isn't used and size the rest from real usage data.
We prefer managed and serverless services where they fit, because you pay for actual use and someone else patches the servers. When steady workloads make reserved capacity or savings plans cheaper, we recommend them with the numbers behind it.
Budgets and alerts are part of every set-up, so an unexpected spike reaches you as an email, not as a surprise invoice.
Security basics in every deployment
- Multi-factor authentication on all cloud accounts
- Separate production and test environments
- Least-privilege roles instead of shared admin keys
- Secrets stored in a managed secret store
- Encryption at rest and in transit
- Automated backups with restore tests
- Audit logging enabled
Typical set-ups we deploy
Marketing site + CMS
A Next.js site on Vercel or Cloudflare with a headless CMS, fast, cheap to run and almost maintenance-free.
Web app + API + database
Front end on Vercel, API on serverless functions or containers, managed PostgreSQL and object storage.
Background processing
Queues and workers for emails, imports, reports and AI jobs that shouldn't block users.
Regulated workloads
EU-region hosting, private networking, audit logs and documented access controls.
How cloud deployment works, step by step
Every step has a clear output you can review. Timing is agreed in your quote.
- 1
Assess
Your application, traffic, data, compliance needs and current hosting.
- 2
Design
Architecture, platform and services chosen, with a cost estimate.
- 3
Set up accounts
Accounts, access and billing structured properly from the start.
- 4
Build infrastructure
Environments, databases, networking and pipelines, as code where it pays off.
- 5
Migrate and deploy
Application and data moved with a tested cut-over plan.
- 6
Operate
Monitoring, alerts, backups and periodic cost reviews.
Tools, and what shapes your quote
Pricing is based on your project and agreed in your quote. These are the things that move it.
| Factor | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Architecture complexity | A single web app is quick to deploy; many services, queues and databases take more work. |
| Migration | Moving existing data and apps without downtime needs planning and rehearsal. |
| Compliance requirements | Data residency, audit logging and access reviews add set-up. |
| Environments | Each additional environment needs configuration and upkeep. |
| Ongoing operations | Monitoring and on-call support are a separate monthly service. |
| Area | Tools |
|---|---|
| Platforms | Vercel, AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, Cloudflare, DigitalOcean |
| Compute | serverless functions, containers (ECS, Cloud Run), virtual machines |
| Infrastructure as code | Terraform, Pulumi, AWS CDK |
| Observability | CloudWatch, Grafana, Sentry, uptime monitors |
| Pipelines | GitHub Actions, GitLab CI |
Common mistakes to avoid
What we see go wrong most often, and how a good project avoids it.
Running everything as root or admin
Shared admin credentials make every leak a full compromise. Use individual, scoped access.
Untested backups
Backups that have never been restored may not work when you need them.
No cost alerts
Without budgets and alerts, a misconfigured resource can run up a large bill quietly.
Infrastructure nobody can rebuild
Click-configured set-ups that aren't documented are fragile. Code or written runbooks fix that.
Frequently asked questions
Whose account does everything run in?
Yours. We set up infrastructure in your own cloud accounts so you own the resources, data and billing, and we access it with permissions you control.
Do I need Kubernetes?
Most businesses don't. Managed platforms such as Vercel, Cloud Run or ECS give you scaling without the operational weight. We recommend Kubernetes only when the workload justifies it.
Can you lower our cloud bill?
Often, yes. We review usage, remove idle resources, right-size instances and databases and add caching, then show you the before and after.
Can you move us from shared hosting to the cloud?
Yes. We plan the migration, rehearse it, switch over at a quiet time and keep the old hosting until the new set-up is proven.
Can data stay in the EU?
Yes. We deploy to EU regions and configure services so data is stored and processed where you need it.
Do you provide 24/7 support?
We set up monitoring and alerts and can provide support on a maintenance plan; response commitments are agreed in that plan.
Can you work with our existing DevOps team?
Yes. We can take on a defined part (a migration, a new environment, cost optimisation) and follow your conventions.
What is infrastructure as code?
Describing servers, databases and networks in code files instead of clicking in a console, so the set-up can be reviewed, versioned and recreated reliably.
How do deployments work after set-up?
Merging code triggers automated tests and a deployment, with preview environments for review and the option to roll back instantly.
Do you handle domains and email DNS?
Yes. We manage DNS carefully so moving hosting never breaks your email or other services.
Can you set up staging so we can test before going live?
Yes. Staging mirrors production closely, with its own database and test data, so changes are checked in realistic conditions before customers see them.
What happens if the cloud provider has an outage?
We design for your tolerance: most businesses rely on a provider's built-in redundancy across availability zones; critical systems can add multi-region failover at extra cost.
