Definition

What is music production?

Music production is the process of composing, arranging, recording, editing and mixing music into a finished track, ready for release or for use alongside video, games or other media.

Stock music is convenient but shared by thousands of other videos, ads and channels. Original music gives your content a sound nobody else has, fits the edit exactly instead of being cut to fit, and comes with clear rights. It doesn't need an orchestra: a well-produced track built around your brand and your footage often does more than a famous-sounding library cue.

Who is it for?

  • Brands and agencies

A recognisable theme for ads, videos and events, used consistently across campaigns.

  • Video producers and YouTubers

Scores cut to your edit, with stems for easy mixing.

  • Game and app studios

Loops, adaptive layers and menu music that don't tire players.

  • Podcasters and artists

Intro themes, or production and arrangement for your own songs.

Starting from references

Describing music in words is hard, so we start with references: tracks you like, tracks you don't, and the mood you want people to feel. From that we write a short brief and produce two or three brief sketches in different directions. You pick one, and we develop it into the full piece.

For music under video, we work to the final or near-final edit, so changes in pace, transitions and the closing logo land exactly where they should.

Music for different uses

UseWhat matters most
Brand theme or sonic logoA short, memorable motif that works in many lengths
Video scoreSupporting the edit without fighting the voice
Podcast introIdentity in a few seconds, and a clean fade under speech
GamesLoops that don't tire, and layers that respond to gameplay
AdsExact timing, impact in the first seconds, cut-downs
Artist releasesYour vision, production quality and a release-ready master

Rights, licences and royalties

Music rights can be split into composition and recording, and uses into online, broadcast, games, events and more. We agree in the quote whether you receive an exclusive licence for your uses or a full assignment of rights, and whether the music may be registered with collecting societies.

For broadcast and some streaming platforms, cue sheets record which music was used and for how long. We provide the information you need to complete them.

Producing for artists

For singers, songwriters and bands, we offer arrangement, production, mixing and mastering of your own songs. You keep the rights to your songs; the credits and any producer share are agreed in writing before work begins, so there are no surprises when the track is released.

AI and music

AI music tools can produce quick sketches, but the rights in AI-generated audio remain unclear in many places, and platforms are tightening their rules. We compose and produce music ourselves and don't deliver AI-generated tracks as original music. If AI tools are used for any minor step, we tell you.

What to send us

  • The video, game build or context the music is for
  • Required lengths and versions
  • Where the music will be used
  • Whether voice-over will sit on top
  • Your release or launch date for planning

Tools, and what shapes your quote

Pricing is based on your project and agreed in your quote. These are the things that move it.

Music Production pricing factors
FactorWhy it matters
Length and number of tracksMore music, and longer pieces, take more composing and production.
Live instrumentsRecording real players adds sessions and editing.
Versions and cut-downsEach alternate version and length adds editing.
Timing to pictureScoring to a detailed edit takes more care than a standalone track.
RightsExclusive rights and broad uses are priced differently from narrow licences.
Adaptive game musicLayered, interactive music needs extra composition and integration.

Common mistakes to avoid

What we see go wrong most often, and how a good project avoids it.

  • Temp-track love

Editing to a famous track for weeks makes anything else sound wrong. Share references early instead.

  • Music fighting the voice

Busy music under narration reduces clarity. Leave space for speech.

  • Unclear rights

Agree exactly where and how long the music can be used before release.

  • One version only

Ads and social need short cut-downs; plan them from the start.

Frequently asked questions

Do I own the music you make?

That is agreed in the quote: an exclusive licence for your uses or a full assignment of rights. Either way you receive it in writing.

Can you compose a sonic logo?

Yes. A short musical signature that works at the end of videos, in apps, on calls and at events.

Do you write music to fit our video?

Yes. We score to your edit so the music follows the pace and transitions exactly.

Do you provide stems?

Yes. Stems grouped by instrument let your editor adjust the mix under voice or effects.

Can you produce my own song?

Yes. Arrangement, production, mixing and mastering, with credits and any producer share agreed in writing.

Do you use AI to make music?

No. We compose and produce music ourselves and don't deliver AI-generated tracks as original work.

Can you make music for games?

Yes, including loops and layered music that can be implemented in FMOD, Wwise, Unity or Unreal.

Can you also mix our dialogue and effects?

Yes, through our audio editing and mixing service, so music and voice are balanced together.

How many revisions are included?

Two rounds of revisions at the sketch stage and two at the production stage.

How is music production priced?

It is quoted on the length and number of tracks, live recording, versions and the rights you need.

Can the theme be adapted for different lengths?

Yes. We deliver a full version plus shorter edits, such as 30, 15 and 6-second versions, and loops where useful.

Can you make music in a specific genre?

Yes. Share references, and we confirm the direction with short sketches before full production.
