What is vibe-coded app repair?

A vibe-coded app is software written mostly by an AI model from natural-language prompts, where the person building it accepts the generated code without reading or reviewing it in detail. Fixing one means a developer reviews that code, secures it and makes it maintainable.

AI builders are excellent at getting an idea on screen. The trouble starts when the demo meets real users: a payment fails silently, a user sees someone else's data, the app slows down as the database grows, or every prompt that fixes one bug breaks something else. None of this means the idea or the work was wasted. Most vibe-coded apps have a usable core; they need an experienced developer to find what the AI got wrong, keep what it got right and put the missing foundations underneath.

Who is it for?

  • Founders with an AI-built MVP

Your prototype has users, or investors, waiting, and you need it safe before launch.

  • Small businesses

An internal tool or website made with an AI builder that now runs part of the business.

  • Teams using AI coding assistants

A codebase that grew fast with Cursor or Copilot and now needs structure, tests and review.

  • Agencies and freelancers

A client project generated with AI that needs a second pair of experienced eyes.

What's included, and what you keep

What's included

  • Code audit of structure, dependencies and duplicated logic
  • Security review: secrets, authentication, authorisation and input handling
  • Database review, including Supabase Row Level Security and Firebase rules
  • Fixes for the bugs and regressions your AI tool keeps reintroducing
  • Payment and webhook checks for Stripe and similar providers
  • Refactoring tangled components into a structure people can maintain
  • Automated tests for the flows that matter most
  • Error tracking, logging and uptime monitoring
  • Proper deployment with environments, backups and a custom domain

  • Documentation and a handover call

What you receive

Handed over at the end. Yours to keep.

  • A written audit with every issue ranked by risk and effort
  • The fixed code in a Git repository you own
  • A short security summary of what was found and changed
  • Setup notes and a guide to continuing with AI tools safely

How does a vibe-coded app become production-ready?

  1. AI prototype

Built with Lovable, Bolt, v0 or Cursor

  2. Audit

Code, data rules, secrets and deployment

  3. Secure

Keys rotated, access rules and auth fixed

  4. Stabilise

Bugs fixed, logic cleaned up, tests added

  5. Production

    Monitored, backed up and documented

We never start by rewriting. The audit decides what to keep, what to fix and what to replace, and security gaps are closed before anything else is touched.

What usually goes wrong in AI-built apps?

The same patterns appear whichever tool generated the code. Each one is easy to miss in a demo and serious in production.

  • Secrets in the browser

API keys for OpenAI, Stripe or a database placed in front-end code, where anyone can read them in the page source.

  • Open database tables

Supabase tables without Row Level Security, or Firebase rules left in test mode, so any visitor can read or change records.

  • Checks only in the interface

Buttons hidden for normal users while the API behind them still accepts the request from anyone who calls it.

  • Payments that trust the client

Prices or plan changes taken from the browser, and webhooks processed without verifying they came from the provider.

  • The bug loop

Each prompt fixes one problem and quietly breaks another, because nothing tests the flows that already worked.

  • Copies of the same logic

Similar code generated several times, so a fix in one place leaves the same bug alive in three others.

Why do AI tools produce these problems?

An AI model writes code that satisfies the prompt in front of it. If the prompt asks for a dashboard that shows orders, it shows orders; it rarely asks on its own whose orders, from which device, and what happens when someone edits the request. Security, error handling and data rules live in the questions nobody typed.

Independent research points the same way. Veracode's 2025 study of more than 100 language models found that the generated code contained a security flaw in 45% of the test tasks, and that newer, larger models were not reliably safer. In 2025 a researcher also reported that 170 apps from one AI builder's public showcase exposed database tables because access rules had never been switched on (CVE-2025-48757).

This is a review problem rather than a reason to stop using AI. The fix is the same one teams have always used: someone who understands the whole system reads the code, tests it and sets up guardrails before it handles real data.

Fix, refactor or rebuild?

The audit ends with a clear recommendation. Most projects land in the first two rows.

OptionWhen it fitsWhat you keep
Targeted fixesThe structure is sound and problems are specific: security gaps, bugs, deploymentAlmost all of the code
RefactorFeatures work but the code is tangled, duplicated or hard to changeThe product, data and most logic, reorganised
Partial rebuildOne part, often the back end or data model, can't be made safe as it isThe interface and the parts that work
Full rebuildThe app is small, unsafe at its core and cheaper to rebuild than repairThe design, the learning and the validated idea

Can you keep building with AI afterwards?

Yes, and we usually recommend it. AI tools are productive when they work inside guardrails. We set up a repository with branches and pull requests, automated tests that run on every change, environment variables kept out of the code, and project rules files for Cursor or Claude Code that describe the architecture, so new prompts follow the structure instead of inventing a new one each time.

If you prefer, we can stay on as reviewers: you or your team keep prompting, and we review changes before they reach production.

What helps us start

  • Access to the code: a GitHub export, a ZIP or the builder project
  • The name of the AI tool and any platform you deploy on
  • Read access to Supabase, Firebase or your database
  • A list of what works, what breaks and what users have reported
  • Any payment, email or third-party services connected to the app

Tools, and what shapes your quote

Pricing is based on your project and agreed in your quote. These are the things that move it.

Vibe-Coded App Repair pricing factors
FactorWhy it matters
Size of the codebaseMore screens, features and files take longer to audit and fix.
State of the codeHeavy duplication or no clear structure points towards refactoring rather than quick fixes.
Sensitivity of the dataPersonal, health or payment data calls for a deeper security review.
Live usersFixing an app people already use needs careful migrations and testing around them.
IntegrationsEach payment, email, AI or third-party service adds checks and testing.
Access and ownershipCode and accounts locked inside a builder may need exporting before work starts.

Common mistakes to avoid

What we see go wrong most often, and how a good project avoids it.

  • Launching straight from the demo

A demo proves the idea. Before real users sign up, someone should check who can read and change which data.

  • Prompting the same bug again

If three prompts haven't fixed it, the cause is usually structural. More prompts tend to add workarounds on top.

  • Rebuilding by reflex

Throwing the code away discards working features and what you learned. Audit first, then decide.

  • Keys in the repository

Secrets committed to Git stay in its history. Rotate them, then move them to environment variables.

Frequently asked questions

What does fixing a vibe-coded app involve?

An audit of the code, security and data rules, followed by fixes in order of risk: exposed secrets and open data first, then broken features, then structure, tests, deployment and monitoring.

Which AI tools do you work with?

Code from any tool: Lovable, Bolt, v0, Replit, Base44, Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Windsurf and others. What matters is the stack underneath, typically React or Next.js with Supabase or Firebase.

Do you have to rewrite my app?

Usually not. Most AI-built apps have a working core worth keeping. We recommend a rebuild only when the audit shows it would cost less than repairing, and we explain why.

Is my Lovable or Bolt app secure?

It may be, but it's worth checking. The most common gaps are database tables without Row Level Security, API keys visible in the browser and permission checks done only in the interface.

Can I keep using Lovable or Cursor after you fix it?

Yes. We set up Git, tests and project rules so you can keep prompting safely, and we can review changes before they go live.

Can you take my app out of the builder platform?

Yes, where the platform allows code export or GitHub sync. We move it to hosting you control, with your own domain, database and environment variables.

Can you fix a vibe-coded website, not just an app?

Yes. AI-built websites often render everything in the browser, miss metadata and load slowly. We fix rendering, SEO, speed, accessibility and contact forms.

How is the work priced?

The audit is quoted first and the fixes are quoted from its findings, based on code size, data sensitivity, integrations and whether the app already has users.

Will you sign an NDA before seeing the code?

Yes, on request. We can sign an NDA before you share the repository or give access to any accounts.

What if my app already had a data leak?

We start by closing the gap, rotating exposed keys and checking logs for what was accessed. We can't give legal advice, so we'll recommend speaking to a data protection adviser about notification duties.
